Lucy keeps privacy simple.

Simple summary

Lucy Desktop is designed as a local-first AI assistant. Your chats, memories, settings, local model files, and local logs are intended to live on your Mac unless you deliberately enable or use a feature that contacts another service.

Lucy Bridge does not read every tab or browse in the background. It reads the active tab only after you click the extension icon, then sends that content to http://127.0.0.1:8765 for the local Lucy app.

Lucy Desktop privacy details

Lucy Desktop may save app data on your Mac so the assistant can work across sessions. Depending on how you use Lucy, this may include chats, prompts, assistant responses, drafts, task history, local memories, notes, settings, model provider choices, UI preferences, local paths, local AI model configuration, model files you add, and local diagnostic output needed to troubleshoot features.

Lucy uses local app data to answer your requests, remember context you choose to keep, run local tools, configure local AI models, and improve continuity in your personal workspace. Lucy does not use your data for third-party advertising or sell it to data brokers.

Lucy is built around local AI execution where available, including MLX on Apple Silicon and local GGUF models through llama.cpp on supported Intel Macs. If you choose to configure an external model provider, web search, remote API, or other internet-enabled tool, the information you send through that feature may be processed by the relevant third-party service under that service’s own terms and privacy policy.

Only enable internet-connected tools if you are comfortable sending the selected request or content to that service.

Browser content and local bridge details

Lucy Desktop can receive webpage content from the optional Lucy Bridge Chrome extension through a localhost bridge. Browser content is sent to Lucy only when you click the extension. Depending on the page, the local bridge may receive the page URL, page title, extracted page text, raw visible page text, and structured details for visible LinkedIn posts.

The local bridge may keep the latest captured page in memory and temporary files on your Mac, including /tmp/lucy_browser_page.txt, /tmp/lucy_browser_raw_page.txt, and /tmp/lucy_browser_linkedin_posts.json, so Lucy can use the page in your local session.

Lucy Bridge Chrome extension privacy details

When you click the Lucy Bridge extension icon, the extension may access the URL, page title, visible page text, and basic page structure from the currently active browser tab. On LinkedIn pages, it may also structure visible post details such as author text, headline text, post text, post URL, and visible engagement text so Lucy can understand the page more accurately.

The extension uses the selected page information for one purpose: sending it to the Lucy desktop app through the local bridge so Lucy can summarize, extract, draft, or answer questions about the page on your Mac. It does not continuously monitor browsing, read tabs in the background, or access a page before you take that action.

After your click, Lucy Bridge sends a local request to http://127.0.0.1:8765/page. The request may include the page URL, page title, extracted page text, raw visible page text, and structured LinkedIn post details found on the visible page.

• activeTab: lets Lucy Bridge access only the active tab after you click the extension icon.
• scripting: lets Lucy Bridge run a capture script on that active tab after your click.
• http://127.0.0.1:8765/*: lets Lucy Bridge send the captured page content to the local Lucy bridge on your Mac.

We do not collect, sell, rent, or transfer personal data from Lucy Bridge. The extension does not send webpage content to us or to third-party servers.

Data sharing, deletion, and security

Lucy Desktop does not sell, rent, or share your personal data for advertising. Local data remains on your Mac unless you choose to export it, back it up, sync it through your own system tools, or use an optional internet-connected feature that sends selected content to another service.

You control the data stored by Lucy on your Mac. You can delete chats, memories, settings, model files, exported content, or the Lucy app data folders using the app’s controls where available or through macOS file management. If you back up your Mac, deleted Lucy data may remain in your backups until those backups expire or are removed.

Lucy is designed to minimize unnecessary data movement. Still, no software can guarantee perfect security. Keep macOS updated, download Lucy from the official GitHub release or website, and be careful when installing third-party model files or enabling tools from untrusted sources.

Children, changes, and contact

Lucy is not intended for children under 13. Do not use Lucy to knowingly collect or process children’s personal information.

We may update these policies as Lucy evolves. When we do, we will update the effective date and publish the revised policies on this website.
