Lucy Terms of Use
These terms explain the basic rules for using Lucy, including the Mac desktop app, the optional Lucy Bridge Chrome extension, documentation, and related downloads.
Plain-English summary
Lucy is provided as local-first AI software for personal productivity. You are responsible for how you use it, for reviewing AI outputs before relying on them, and for complying with applicable laws and third-party service terms.
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using Lucy, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use Lucy.
2. Ownership
Lucy, including its software, website, branding, documentation, and related materials, is owned by its creator or applicable rights holders. These terms do not transfer ownership of Lucy to you.
3. License to use Lucy
Subject to these terms, you may download and use Lucy for your own lawful personal or internal business purposes. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, rent, sublicense, or host Lucy as a service unless a separate license or written permission allows it.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Lucy to:
- Break the law or violate another person’s rights.
- Create, distribute, or automate harmful, abusive, deceptive, or malicious content.
- Interfere with websites, services, systems, or security controls.
- Collect or process sensitive data without proper rights, consent, or safeguards.
- Misrepresent AI-generated content as human-created where disclosure is required.
5. AI outputs
Lucy may generate inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate outputs. You are responsible for reviewing and validating outputs before relying on them, publishing them, or using them to make decisions. Lucy is not a substitute for professional legal, medical, financial, or other expert advice.
6. Local models, third-party tools, and services
Lucy may work with local AI models, browser content you choose to send through Lucy Bridge, and optional external services or APIs you configure. Third-party models, APIs, websites, and services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. You are responsible for any third-party credentials, costs, usage limits, and compliance obligations.
7. Updates and availability
Lucy may be updated, changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time. Updates may add, modify, or remove features. Because Lucy is early beta software, bugs, compatibility issues, and breaking changes may occur.
8. Purchases and refunds
If Lucy is sold in the future, purchase terms, license length, support scope, and refund rules will be provided at checkout or in a separate purchase policy. Unless a specific refund policy says otherwise, fees may be non-refundable to the maximum extent permitted by law.
9. Privacy
Your use of Lucy is also covered by the applicable privacy policies: the Lucy Desktop Privacy Policy and the Lucy Bridge Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimer
Lucy is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lucy’s creator and contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, business interruption, or substitute services arising from or related to your use of Lucy.
12. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as Lucy evolves. The effective date will be updated when changes are published. Continued use of Lucy after changes means you accept the revised terms.
